GKN Driveline Walsall was established in 1940 & moved to its present site in 1953.In its early days, when known as BRD Company Limited, it manufactured a variety of products including bearings, turbine blades, outboard engines for boats, pitprops for the mining industry & crankshafts. However, in the early 1960s it began to specialise in the production of propshafts & today has the capacity to produce in excess of one million units per year.
Today GKN Driveline Walsall employs around 340 people & is the largest independent manufacturer of CV-jointed propshafts in Europe. It supplies products for most of the world's leading vehicle manufacturers.
